The Great Rabbit Saga: Chapter the Third

(Returning Guest Blogger: Cory)

We apologize for our long absence from the blogosphere, but it was for good reason. You see, we had an unexpected 4th of July surprise. On that fateful day, Sarah and I were lounging around in the late morning, enjoying the day off, making the most of our time by planning when we were going to take our naps that day and when we were going to take our meals (the two simply cannot overlap). So Sarah, with her burgeoning motherly instinct, decided to go check on our newest children, the outdoor rabbits. Well, not two minutes later, she came running inside, blubbering something like, "UMmm, Ummm, the blabbit had rabies, the BLABBIT HAD RABIES!" After consulting my "Sarah when she's agitated"-to-English dictionary, I realized that she was saying that the "rabbit had babies". And this is what she saw:

(this is actually them at one day old - the newborn picture had blood in it - a little graphic for our usually G-rated blog)

So, Reese, our outdoor female, who apparently has been around the block, was pregnant when we got her, little did we know or suspect (we did a couple checks when we first got her and it didn't seem, according to the info we got from Sarah's best friend the Internet, that she was pregnant - and she was so skinny). Here she is, trying not to look skanky:

(in the corner you see some of the blood I referred to earlier - I'll up our MPAA rating to a PG now)

Anyway, the bunnies grew as bunnies do, and soon they looked like this:

Unfortunately, along the way one of the original seven died. The other six did just fine though. I speak of them in the past tense because on Tuesday we gave them away, including Reese the mother, to a rabbit rescue operation about an hour away. No, we're not heartless and insensitive to these adorable little creatures. We wanted the best for them and unfortunately we don't have enough room to accommodate a grand total of 11 adult rabbits (though the delightfully nutty girl we gave them to has 49 now - and they all have names). Here's some more photos and video - these are about the cutest things ever and yes I know it sounds painfully girly for me to string those words together like that but I believe my high and mighty calling as a blogger is to relay and convey the truth, and the truth here is that these bunnies are just so d@mn cute!

Holy Adorable Rabbits! Those are so cute, freakin' cute! And I'm glad you guys don't have rabbits in the double digits, because that could have gotten really weird really fast.
