How we spent Valentine's Day Night...

Now people, this is a G-rated blog, remember? Our Valentine's Day night was not what you would expect! First, let me preface this blog by announcing our distaste for this contrived "holiday." I am a Valentine's Day scrooge because, really, it's lame! BUT. We did exchange cards and Cory got me flowers and I got him Reese Peanut Butter Cups, because we are told to do so and we like to follow the rules all the time, always. :)

We did get to rent a free movie and get free ice cream from Marble Slab Creamery.  That was the good part of the evening.

The not-so-good part started when I smelled gas (not the type that comes from a person's backside) in our garage, where the furnace is located. So I called the gas company and they treated it as though the house was going to blow up and wouldn't let me or Sophie go back in the house until they came and checked on it.

Apparently we had a slow, tiny, miniscule amount of gas seeping occasionally from one of the parts so it was deemed UNSAFE and needed to be replaced before we could turn the heat back on. However, all the parts stores were closed for the day and the furnace dude couldn't come until the next day, uh, that would be today.

Thank goodness we live in North Carolina! It did get down to 31 degrees last night but we bundled Sophie up and had her sleep in our bed with us and the dog and extra blankets and an electric space heater. It was actually quite toasty.

Then we paid $320 for the furnace part, which really, looked like a piece of plastic with a few holes in it. Happy Valentine's Day to us!

Glad you had a good Valentine's day but bummer with the gas leak! Hate spending money on stupid stuff! I'm very glad you are okay. We did have a situation once where a family had the same thing, a little leak so they were told to stay outside. When the gas guy came and the mom led him inside to show him where the entire house exploded with dad and kids watching! Really horrible. So....glad you stayed outside!!
