The Outer Banks

Completely forgot to blog about our trip to the outer banks last month! I've been slacking in the blog department. Cory switched jobs last month and had a lovely week of unemployment between the two. We decided to take a trip to North Carolina's famous Outer Banks, since we've lived here 5 years now and have never been there. We've been to the ocean a couple times before but not the actual outer banks.

It was challenging! It was our first trip with Sienna and she was only 3 months old. It took about 5.5 hours to drive there with a stop in the middle to feed Sienna, change diapers etc. We went to the NC aquarium in Manteo, a cute coastal town on an island between the mainland and the outer banks. We were happy to see they had 7-Elevens! We don't have any around here where we live so we got a slurpee a couple of times.

Stayed at the Cavalier motel right on the beach. Sophie loved the ocean and sat in the water and loved getting pushed by the waves.

We drove up and down the outer banks tiny strip of land and saw the Bodie Island Lighthouse and the famous Cape Hatteras lighthouse, plus we went to the Jockey Ridge State Park which is full of huge sand dunes. I stayed on the boardwalk with Sienna and Cory took Sophie on the sand.  She was so funny!  It took her a while to figure out how to walk on the large mounds of soft sand!

It was good to go but it was a lot of work, what with stopping to feed Sienna wherever we were at the time, plus getting in her naps, plus she screamed bloody murder one of the nights before bed for like 40 minutes.  I'm sure our neighbours loved that!
We'll probably wait until Sienna's a little older before going on a major trip like that again! But Sophie had a blast and it was nice to see the ocean again!
