Somethin' to blog about....

Forgive our absence, I'm sure you missed us greatly :) We've had a busy, busy month of August so far! Let me explain...no there is too much, let me sum up (Ok, who knows the reference?? Hmm, come on, it's easy!)

My parents from Canada came to visit the first week of August! As is tradition when they come visit, they stock up on Cheerwine to bring home to Canada. Yes, it is THAT good. I was sure their car was going to bust a tire from the weight.
They had a great time with Sophie, she is, of course, a charmer. We took another trip to the park we went to earlier (see previous post) since we didn't get to do everything last time. We mined for gems, took a train ride, saw a bunch of animals (including a bear up close and personal) and of course, what made the trip complete was seeing a snake feed on a mouse. Awesome. We had a great visit with my parents, though they were hoping that Sophie would learn to crawl forward while they were here, but no luck (more about Sophie's recent accomplishments later in the post).

After my parents left, we had 4 days to recuperate and to get ready for our next trip up to Boothbay, Maine for a Quinlan family reunion. It was Sophie's first plane ride and I was a nervous wreck with worry about how she would do. Also, equally nervewracking was the fact that our first plane had propellers. Propellers! What freaking century are we in? Of course, as is Sophie's way, she was a perfect angel for every plane ride, including layovers, and the propellers seemed to keep us in the air the whole time. Whew.
We had a lot of fun in Maine. We stayed at Cory's parents' house who live right on a cove off the ocean. We kicked Cory's brother's family out of the little cottage on their property so we had our own private space and bathroom, which was perfect for Sophie. Cory did some kayaking in the ocean (the OCEAN, people, need I emphasize the craziness of the Quinlans?! I have a thing about being that close to the deep abyss of the open sea, you know, just a little minor thing, in a contraption that seems to me like a water coffin waiting to happen). We also ate fresh lobster that *choke* was ALIVE when my father-in-law so callously dropped it into the pot. I do recall hearing some thrashing about in there. Although, I have to admit, it was tasty.I don't have a picture yet (GQ, please send the pic!) but I learned to ride a scooter, and yes, that was F.U.N. Cory enjoyed it too.

What else...oh we went to a place called Pemaquid point on the ocean and went up a lighthouse, explored the quaint touristy town of Boothbay harbour (which is also right on the ocean, hence, a harbour-or "hah-bah", as the Mainers would say), let Sophie splash about in the cove, and took a canoe ride out on the cove. We had a great time in Maine, thanks GQ and Rog!On the way back to the airport to go home we stopped at a map store called Delorme, which houses the largest rotating globe in the world called Eartha. Eartha is a 3-dimensional scale model of our earth with mountains and landforms in full 3D, that rotates and revolves, simulating the earth’s real movements.Meanwhile, Sophie turned 9 months old yesterday and she has been learning a few new tricks this month! She finally learned to roll over from back to tummy (and now won't STOP doing it, even when we want to change her diaper, or for heaven's sake, put her to SLEEP). She can now wave hi/bye, she has her first tooth poking out from her gums, AND she learned to crawl (forward)!! YAY for my little girl! Busy month for her. She's been crawling backward only since July, and it was frustrating for her, but now she's cruising all over the place. She's only been doing it for about 5 days now.

And now we're back home, back in our routine, finally unpacked, and relaxed. Therefore, it was "blogging-time" (as opposed to "Hammer-time").

Sounds like a fun filled month so far! I love the "ooo" faces Sophie makes! Keep your eyes out for the boxes (yes two) of clothes!
