Is it 2014 Already?

Time flies waaaaay too fast. Does anyone even blog anymore? We've had the winter blues around here, and I am anxiously awaiting for spring to arrive! Winter doesn't seem to want to let go this year. Let's see what we've been up to since the new year. Let me peruse my pictures.....

Ah, ok. Well for New Years Eve we made a pinata and yummy snacks, and I made a bag for the girls to open on the hour from 6pm to 10pm (the girls "midnight"). They contained things like confetti, noise makers, hats, glasses, and the like. We made a royal mess of the living room on account of our hardy partying.

What else? Oh yeah, I made a cake for a Primary activity with a rainbow theme. It was VERY heavy and tall because it had 6 layers inside, each with a different color for the rainbow. It seems my cake decorating has been circulating at church and now everyone wants me to decorate a cake for them. I'm not sure why. I never intended for it to be a "thing," in fact, I don't really enjoy it, I just do it for special occasions. But I can't say no, right? So I do it.

I made a Ninja Turtle cake last year for a friend's son's birthday, and will make it again for another birthday party in a couple weeks. Speaking of cakes...

I turned 35 in January. Cory, bless his heart, did his darndest trying to make a cake for me. Granted, he made it rainbow inside, very colorful, and it WAS really tasty....but.....well, let's just let you take a gander at the picture, shall we?  We all had a good, hardy, heartfelt laugh over it.

In other news for the last couple months, winter has been out of the ordinary for this climate.  We had 2 major snowstorms and a few ice storms. Sophie missed 9 days of school, for crying out loud.  They are complete wusses here when it comes to snow. Big babies. So we've been stuck inside the house a lot this winter...blah.

I made my first turkey. For no particular reason except for that it was in our freezer since Christmas (Cory got it as a gift from work) and we didn't eat it at Christmas and we didn't want to waste it. Apparently, I stink at cooking turkeys. Granted, it was my first, but it was dry. And I really am not that concerned about being able to make a good turkey. It's not my thang, I guess. However, Cory does rave about my cooking skills, I've been such a good housewife lo these past couple years. I may be dead inside, but at least I can cook, and do a mean load of laundry.

So...February brought Valentines day, and Sophie and I made yummy red velvet cookies. It also brought a trip to Utah for Cory's mom's 60th birthday, and the leaving of our good friends. We've been having playdates at a friend's house almost weekly for about 4 years.  Then they up and moved to Chicago last month.  We are sad. But our trip to Utah was very good! The girls loved the airplane ride, and we loved seeing family and celebrating with GQ and Rog. We wished we lived closer to the family but instead of moving back west, we are trying to recruit Cory's siblings to move out here close to us :)  I don't think it's working. I think we need to try harder.

This winter we all had only minor coughs and colds, except for Sophie, who got a REALLY bad stomach bug.  She was down and out for 5 days. She threw up for 2 days and had diarrhea at the same time, for maybe 3 days.  We were lucky to be able to keep her hydrated so she didn't have to go to the doctor, but I was freaking out the whole time.  We got a lot of advice from a doctor friend of ours, so we knew what to do. She did lose a LOT of weight since she didn't eat for almost 3 days, and she was skin and bones.  But she gained that weight back pretty quickly. We were very lucky, because we were expecting all of us to get it just as bad, but only Sienna got it pretty mildly, she had diarrhea for one day and was kinda tired for a couple days after.

In March Cory and I had a date to a local hockey game. It was fun. I think we need to move to Raleigh so Cory can have an excuse to get into hockey, since that's where the NHL team the Hurricanes are from. Speaking of Raleigh, we have been in talks about me going back to school, and there is a PhD program at NC State (in Raleigh) that I would LOVE to do.  So the plan is that I am going to apply for school this Fall, for next Fall.  We'll see what happens. If I don't get in, we'll stay here.  We really like it here, but for some reason, I feel the NEED to go to Raleigh.  They have excellent job prospects and schools and really nice areas to live with good schools. Anywho, what will be, will be.

March also brought back that sneaky Leprachaun for St. Patrick's Day. He did some damage, but nothing terrible.  He TP'd our living room and the girls room, took a bath in our sink, peed green in our toilet, left footprints, and even though we TRIED to catch him in the trap Sophie and I made, he STILL got the Lucky Charms from the trap without being caught. What a bugger.

On one of the warmer March days we took a trip to the local state park, Hanging Rock. Cory actually had a race there that day, but he had been sick and was unable to run, so we still went there to get the T-shirt, and we brought the dumb dog and we hiked around to a couple waterfalls. It was fun.

We also got to see my cousin and her family this month. It's not very often we see my side of the family, but my cousin (from Canada) happened to marry someone from North Carolina so they come down every so often. It's nice to connect occasionally with family!

Our girls are doing well. Sophie starts KINDERGARTEN in the Fall, can you believe it. She is 5 and a half now. Sienna will be starting preschool and she is 3 next month. They need to stop growing. They get along so well, they are always giving each other kisses and hugs, and they play together so well. They love to dress up in crazy outfits.

This coming weekend we are taking advantage of the Christmas gift we got from Rog and GQ and going to the Great Wolf Lodge.  We've never been there on account of it's so OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE, so THANK YOU Rog and GQ for the gift cards to make the trip a lot less painful :) Pictures will come the next time we blog....so....probably a couple months from now :)

Your girls are so cute. Can't believe Sophie is headed to kindergarten - Grace is too and it makes me sad all of ours will be in school this fall. Keep the blog posts coming :)
