October...Fair, Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, Halloween

We went to the Dixie Classic Fair that rolls into town this time of year. It was quite the interesting crowd of people...and quite the crowd it was! We could barely walk without bumping into someone. There was the typical carnival games and food, the monster truck show (of course!), the livestock, and the rides.

We could have eaten anything we wanted fried. I mean anything. Pickles, Snickers bars, twinkies... but we did eat the fried Oreos...they were delish. And we bought Sophie a giant gummy bear on a stick. And we ate ribbon fries. And paid an outlandish $10 for Cory and Sophie to ride the ferris wheel.  It was the one thing Sophie really, really wanted to do.  It was definitely an experience!

The next day, we went to the North Carolina Zoo. First time we've taken the girls. The zoo has good and bad...the animal enclosures are very nice for the animals, because they are BIG and spacious. But that means that it takes a LOOOONG time to get through the zoo, and a lot of walking from one animal to another. The girls enjoyed it though, and Sienna especially, she's our animal lover!

We also went to the pumpkin patch a couple weeks ago. Took the typical pumpkin patch pictures and bought a couple pumpkins to decorate. Sophie loved sitting up in the horse-drawn coach.

Then of course, HALLOWEEN! First, we carved pumpkins. I say "we" loosely, because the girls of course, did no carving.  They plastered their pumpkins with paint and stickers.

We went to Trunk or Treat at our church on Friday night and the girls scored big time! It's a very efficient method to get candy, I say. 15 minutes, and a bucket load of candy; it's a lot more effective than actual trick or treating! Sophie was Rapunzel and Sienna was Pascal the chameleon from the movie Tangled.

On actual Halloween evening, I made a fitting halloween-type dinner before the festivities. A lovely meaty hand appendage, and apple/cheese mouths. Then our friends the McCoys came over to go Trick or Treating together. Sophie and their daughter Charlotte are good friends. They had a great time trick or treating, and taking turns ringing the doorbells. We sorted through their loot after and confiscated the candy we deemed "unsafe..." ie. the Twix's, and the Reese's Peanut Butter cups, and the Snickers...ahem. Yes, that horrible horrible stuff.  We had to taste those to make sure they were okay :)

And that was our October! Once again, the month flies by as I sit unawares.
